Find Your IMEI: *#06# on iPhone and Android

Open the Phone app and enter *#06# to display your IMEI. If nothing appears, use Settings > General > About on iPhone, or Settings > About phone on Android. The IMEI identifies the mobile device; it is different from your mobile number and the manufacturer's serial number.
Three ways to find it

Apple also documents identifying devices through Finder, Apple Devices or iTunes and the Apple Account device list. Exact options depend on the model and which records or accounts you still have access to. Do not assume every SIM tray or invoice carries the IMEI.
IMEI 1, IMEI 2 and EID
A dual-SIM device may display two IMEIs. Record both against the same physical handset where relevant. An EID identifies an embedded SIM component and is a different identifier. None of these numbers is a PAC code or a password for your account.
For a fleet, maintain a restricted record of the model, storage, assigned user, mobile line, IMEI or IMEIs, purchase record and return date. On a handset return, compare the identifiers with the issued-device record before reassigning it.
If a business phone is lost
Contact your mobile provider and the person responsible for the company's devices promptly. Give them the device and line details you have. Ask the provider about suspending the line and blacklisting the handset, and use the organisation's approved lost-device process.
An IMEI block concerns mobile-network access. It does not erase files or guarantee that the phone cannot be used over Wi-Fi. Remote account protection, lock or erase procedures are separate. Do not delay reporting a missing phone while searching for an identifier; the provider may have its own records.
Buying a used phone
Ask the seller for proof of ownership and confirm the phone can be set up for your account. An IMEI check is one input, not proof of ownership, a complete compatibility test or a guarantee against a later report. Also check condition, battery, warranty, account locks and remaining software support.
Keep identifiers private
Share an IMEI only through a verified supplier, network, insurer or support process that needs it. Avoid publishing screenshots of the About screen. A public “checker” requesting additional account details is not automatically a trusted service.
Frequently asked questions
Does changing SIM change the IMEI?
The IMEI belongs to the device rather than the mobile number. Changing a SIM does not normally change the device identifier.
Is an IMEI the same as a serial number?
No. Both identify hardware, but the mobile equipment identity and manufacturer serial number are distinct fields.
Can *#06# locate my lost phone?
No. It displays identifiers on the device. Use the manufacturer or company lost-device service and report the loss to your provider.
